Sustainability

Plastic bags were invented by a Swedish engineer, Sten Gustaf Thulin in 1959. They were developed as an alternative to paper bags, whose production resulted in forests being chopped down. The durability of plastic bags made them reusable and were considered environment-friendly at that time.

Nowadays, instead of being reused for several times, most of the plastic bags are used just once and then discarded, piling up at landfills and become a big environmental issue.

Fortunately, there are many ways to use plastic bags wisely to make it more eco-friendly than their alternatives. As an experienced stakeholder in the plastic bags industry, Winner Bags took two moves in the 1990s and 2000s respectively - Recycling and introducing Oxo-Biodegradable additives to our products to make our plastic bags more sustainable.

Recycling

Winner Bags set up our own recycling facilities in the 1990s. It drastically reduced the waste being disposed of and eventually benefited our clients as a result of a better cost-control.

Recycling facilities are now equipped in our China and Vietnam plants to process the waste resulted in production. Most of the waste are recycled to plastic resin for plastic bags production again.

Oxo-Biodegradable Additives

Winner Bags introduced Oxo-Biodegradable additives in the 2000s to our products as a response to the growing environmental concerns.

The additives are formulated degradant catalysts which change non-biodegradable polymers into Oxo-Biodegradable plastics.

The service life of the additives-added plastic bags is in certain extent controllable, however, the actual lifetime of the bags will also be affected by temperature, the exposure to sunlight, humidity and so on. By adding suitable amount of additives, chemical reaction will take place in a desirable pace and the plastic bags will eventually degrade into carbon dioxide, water and a benign, non-toxic residue, which is compatible to our nature.
